Tom began his Financial Services career in 1978 with his current broker-dealer, now Equitable Advisors, in his hometown of Tarboro. With help from other sales associates, Tom was able to achieve membership in the company’s National Leaders Corps. and Industry recognition in the Million Dollar Round Table on several occasions by the mid-1980’s. Working through organizations like the Tarboro Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Edgecombe County United Way made it clear that serving others through community involvement was the key not only to business advancement but to a rewarding and fulfilling life.
In 1994, Tom accepted a sales position in Wilson, NC with Jefferson–Pilot (now Lincoln) and worked with them until 2015 when he returned to Equitable Advisors as a member of Sound Partners. Tom is grateful to Sound Partners for offering him the opportunity to grow professionally and to continue serving people whom he admires and respects.
Tom grew up in the Eastern North Carolina town of Tarboro. He always enjoyed sports and in 1969 attended Auburn University on a basketball scholarship. After two years, he transferred to Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson where he continued his education and basketball pursuits. He graduated from Atlantic Christian with a degree in Business in 1973. In 1981, Tom married Lydia, and they have been blessed with many special memories and three wonderful children: Lydia, Thomas, and Laura. Then, as now, Tom’s family is his greatest source of pride.

The Retirement Planning Specialist title is awarded by Equitable Advisors, based upon the Financial Professional's (FP) receipt of a Certificate in Retirement Planning from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. In a collaboration between the Wharton School and Equitable Advisors' affiliated life insurance carrier, coursework for the certificate was developed exclusively for Equitable Advisors FPs, and the title may be used only by FPs who have completed the required coursework and maintain the title through ongoing continuing education requirements.
